Special Lunch Session 3 - May 21
What in the world is IUPAC, really?
Organisers: Laura McConnell (Bayer & Former Division President, IUPAC Division VI), Rai Kookana (CSIRO & Current Division President, IUPAC Division VI), and John Unsworth (Chair, IUPAC Committee on Crop Protection Chemistry)
Chemists around the world learn IUPAC nomenclature in their organic chemistry course, but what is IUPAC, really? IUPAC is turning 100 this year, and the Periodic Table is turning 150 years old as well. Come and find out about the mission of IUPAC, its role in the Periodic Table of Elements, and how the Union supports sustainable development, provides a common language for chemistry, and advocates for the free exchange of scientific information.
The aim of this lunch will be to introduce attendees to IUPAC and to invite new volunteers to participate in the Committee on Crop Protection Chemistry. We will also brainstorm new ways to continue the momentum gained during this Congress. Come and see how you can be a part of this global union of chemistry organizations and expert volunteers.
Sponsored by the IUPAC Division of Chemistry and the Environment (Division VI)
