Hubert Deluyker - Former EFSA Scientific Adviser

Prior to his retirement in October 2017, Dr Hubert Deluyker was EFSA’s Scientific Adviser, providing the Executive Director with advice on issues related to EFSA’s scientific activities.
Dr Deluyker joined EFSA already in 2004. He developed and became its Director of the Scientific Co-operation and Assistance Directorate until 2011. He was subsequently Director of the Risk Assessment and Scientific Assistance Directorate and then Director of Science Strategy and Coordination, a post he held until he became EFSA’s Scientific Adviser.
Before working for EFSA he was a clinical research scientist in the field of animal health from 1989 to 2004 for Pfizer Belgium, where he led a range of multidisciplinary and multinational research and development projects.
He was also Associate Professor in Epidemiology from 1991 to 2000 at the School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Ghent, Belgium, where he established the School’s teaching and research programme on epidemiology.
He graduated in veterinary medicine from the University of Ghent. He holds a PhD in Epidemiology and a Master’s in Preventive Veterinary Medicine from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis. He also holds a Master’s in Administration from the U.C. Davis School of Management and a BA in Business Administration from St. Aloysius College, Brussels.
